HISTORIC UNITY OF MUSLIM MPs

Dear Sisters and Brothers, Assalamu Alaikum

The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka (MCSL) convened a meeting of our brother MPs from all political parties for a consultation on unifying our political leadership to face the challenges confronting the community from the Bodu Bala Sena and other extremist Buddhist groups. Allhamdu-iillah, this meeting was a significant event and, consensus was reached on working together as one group on all matters related to  our community issues. May Allah SWT shower his blessings on all of them.

As a first step, they resolved to write to His Excellency Mahinda Rajapakshe  to decisively intervene on the hate campaign and intimidation carried out by the Bodu Bala Sena and other extremist groups against Muslim religious issues, Mosques, Muslim Attire, Food and the resettlement of Muslim IDPs who were evicted by the LTTE from the Northern Province in 1990 in the worst ethnic cleansing exercised in the history of Sri Lanka and who have been living as a "Forgotten People" for the last 23 years. Alhamdu Lillah, 16 of the 18 Muslim parliamentarians have signed the attached document .

This offers a historic opportunity to unify the community's political leadership, civil society and religious groups. May Allah SWT guide us to be united.  Please continue praying for the community's unity and well-being.

Wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
